The intro of Homecoming (Part 1: The Death of St. Jimmy) is a pretty simple guitar riff. Basically it’s just A, E, D, A. But in between that D and A, there is one little transitional note played, which is Db. So you just place your third finger on the 4th fret of the D (4th) string and hit that note in between switching from the D to the A and that’s pretty much all there is to it. Listen to the song again if you’re not sure what the heck I’m talking about.

For the purpose of the chord chart below, we call that transitional one-note “chord” a D/Db.

You will notice it says “Asus4-A thingy” also in the beginning. That’s the little pull-off you hear in the chord at that point (and only that part in the song). Basically you just play the open A chord by barring the 2nd fret from the 2nd to 4th strings, and to make it an Asus4, you add your 3rd finger to the 3rd fret of the B (2nd) string. With that 3rd finger held down, you strike the chord and then pull it off. Do that twice and hopefully you’ll see what needs to be done to achieve that little part. Or you could just ignore it altogether and most of your friends won’t notice it’s missing!
