No need to write out all the chords here, this song that was originally written by The Who is pretty gosh darn easy to play. The whole song is basically two chords that modulate across three keys.

You start off playing a G to F pattern, then after the second time Billie sings “Why don’t you all just fade away”, around the 1:11 mark, you move up one whole step so you are playing an A to G pattern. Then, around 1:38, we move up another whole step for the solo/rest of the song to a B to A pattern.

Easy peasy. For your convenience, here are the lyrics:

(spoken: I think I can do it)
Well, people try to put us down
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
Just because we get around
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
The things they do look awful cold
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
I hope I die before I get old
(Talkin’ bout my generation)

My generation

Why don’t you all just fade away?
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
And don’t try to dig what we all say
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
I’m not trying to cause a big sensation
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
I’m just talkin’ bout my generation
(Talkin’ bout my generation)

My generation
(Talkin’ bout my generation)

Heineken, fuck that shit! (audio clip from Blue Velvet)

Why don’t you all just fade away?
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
And don’t try to dig what we all say
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
I’m not trying to cause a big sensation
(Talkin’ bout my generation)
I’m just talkin’ bout my generation
(Talkin’ bout my generation)

My generation
