Green Day - Warning album cover

Release Year: 2000
Label: Warner/Reprise
Producer: Green Day

Warning was the first Green Day album since they signed with Reprise to not be produced by Rob Cavallo. Although Cavallo was involved to some degree with the production, it was officially produced by the band themselves. Despite surprisingly favorable reviews and praise from critics, Warning was not a huge commercial success in comparison to their other releases, although several tracks appeared on the Billboard modern rock chart (including Minority which remained at #1 for five consecutive weeks).

The Green Day sound that the public had become accustomed to shifted drastically on Warning to a more “mature” sound, as described by critics. Big distorted guitars were traded for lighter, pop-rock guitars and various other instruments were added to the mix. Another first for Green Day is the appearance of a dominatrix by the name of Mistress Simone who appears on Blood, Sex and Booze, as she does her thing on Green Day’s long-time engineer, Tone.
